Scouts. Lead The Way.

For youth ages 11-17

 

The Scouts BSA program is designed to promote character, citizenship and personal fitness in youth while instilling the fundamental values of Scouting. Through peer group leadership and the assistance of adult volunteers, Scouts participate in a whole new exciting world of outdoor activities, service projects and leadership experiences. Scouts are introduced to countless hobbies, interests, sciences and even future career choices while working toward advancement and earning specific merit badges.

The youth, who are also charged with planning activities and other events throughout the year, lead the program. By taking on these responsibilities, Scouts develop and promote teamwork while learning to lead as well as follow.- Scout BSA Achievements are rewarded with badges of ranks.

Advancement

 

Advancement is the process by which youth members progress through ranks in the Scouting program by the gradual mastery of Scouting skills. Regardless the program—Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Varsity Scouting, Venturing, or Sea Scouts—where advancement takes place, it is nothing more and nothing less than a method. It is a means toward accomplishing the Boy Scouts of America mission. It is not an end in itself.

The outcomes of the Scouting experience should be fun and educational, and not just relate to completing rank requirements that might place unrealistic expectations on a member who has a disability.
