MCC Shooting Sports

Volunteer? Who, me?

Hi, there! We are so glad you are here.

Let me ask you a question. Did you go to summer camp as a youth? Do you have a favorite memory from camp? I attended summer camp. In fact, I attended both Camp Grimes and Camp Steere (the camp before Belk Scout Camp). My most vivid memories are my first time camping alone, my first time jumping in the lake for a swim test, and of course, my first time shooting a BB gun.

Now, in order for me to have made those memories, it took more than just a wooded lot, a lake and a few BB guns. It took a handful of paid Scouters and a lot of volunteers. The paid Scouters ensure we have the facilities, but it's the volunteers that really make the memories.

Volunteering is super easy. You don't need all kinds of training and credentials to be a big help. In fact, you don't need to know anything about BB guns or bows and arrows at all! You just need to be willing to give a little of your time and we'll teach you what you need to know.

During the training, we will teach you about archery, let you practice shooting and talk about the way to teach Cub Scouts. We also teach you about BB guns, let you practice shooting and go over the range commands. We have documented procedures (for reference) and will give you a quick reference card. It takes less than a day and you get to have fun on two different ranges.

Ok, now that you know a little more about how you can help make memories, visit our Training page to sign up for the Cub Scout Range Master course that fits your schedule. We generally offer three courses in the Spring and one in the Fall, but if you don't find one that works for you, register anyway and choose the "Interested, but none of these dates work for me" option.
